How Streetwear Got Street Cred
Streetwear came to life in the mid- to late-2000s with Brands like Bathing Ape, and Yummies. These brands were pushed by artists such as Lil Wayne, Pharell, and Soulja boy. The fashion trends like as baggy pants and oversized shirts have made their way back to the modern-day street wear. The trend of wearing oversized clothes came back during quarantine. TikTok made this trend spread throughout the fashion community and celebrities hopped on the trend as well, with notable figures like Lil baby, Lil Uzi, and Drake paving the way.
A lot of brands are catering to Streetwear, like Hell Star, Gallery dept, and Essentials.
When it comes to his own sense of Streetwear style, senior Enrique Kapoudy said, ”I tend to look more towards proportions for whatever fit I’m wearing, but it just depends on the pieces and what I wanna go with it. Baggy wear definitely adds definition and layers and I can pass with fitted, as long as it’s not skin-tight and cutting off my blood circulation.”
