Summer of Discovery

- May 30, 2025

As the school bells ring out the end of the academic year and the Florida sun shines brighter than ever, students and teachers at Coconut Creek High School are already looking ahead to summer 2025 with excitement. With travel plans, new hobbies, trending challenges, and well-deserved relaxation, everyone seems to have their own unique vision for what this special season holds.

Adventures, Discoveries, and Inspiration

For Bright, a junior at Coconut Creek, summer means escape and exploration.

“I’m planning to go to Orlando with my cousins. We’re going to Universal Studios and maybe Busch Gardens too. I found some student discounts online, so it won’t hit my mom’s credit card too hard,” he says with a grin.

But Bright isn’t stopping there. “I’m also thinking of doing a road trip to Key Largo. It’ll be both a vacation and a source of inspiration. I want to come back with stories to share with my friends next year.”

He also hopes to visit museums, explore outdoor attractions, and maybe even check out the Kennedy Space Center.

“Summer isn’t just for relaxing—it’s also a time to grow,” he adds. Bright is hoping to read more, get a summer job, and dive into new passions like photography and journaling. “I want to capture my experiences in photos and words—like a personal documentary.”

A Summer of Transition and Memories

For Mr. Federman, a teacher at Coconut Creek, summer 2025 will carry deep personal meaning.

“I’ll be visiting family and friends in Ohio and South Carolina,” he shares. “I’m also preparing for my retirement. It’s a big change, but I’m excited.”

He plans to enjoy long drives through scenic roads, keep up with his daily workouts, and spend time reconnecting with loved ones.

“I’m going to drive a lot and enjoy the open road,” he says, emphasizing the importance of personal wellness. Though he hasn’t found summer deals yet, he’s staying alert for last-minute offers.

Federman is also planning to begin a personal project: “I want to start writing a little memoir—just something to remember the journey, my years of teaching, and the students I’ve met along the way.”

Vanessa: A Dream of France and Feel-Good Vibes

For Vanessa, also a sophomore , her dream summer would take her far from Coconut Creek—across the ocean to France.

“I love the culture, the language, the colors of the flag, and the peaceful vibes,” she says. “France just feels like a place where I’d be happy.”

Though she may not be able to travel this year, Vanessa plans to make the most of her summer close to home. Trips to water parks and fun with friends are at the top of her list. She’s also looking forward to relaxing with her favorite shows.

“I’ll definitely be watching Black Lightning. I love the acting and the characters,” she shares. She also draws inspiration from True Beauty, a show that reminds her that “confidence, kindness, and compassion are what make someone truly beautiful.”

Books and music are also key to her summer. Vanessa enjoys reading novels like Majesty and Lion, which she says help her reflect on life. And music? It’s her emotional anchor.

“Songs like Apollo and Rewrite the Stars help me when I’m stressed or feeling down,” she says. “Music helps me stay in control of my emotions.”

Mr. Federman, preparing for retirement, agrees.

“What makes a summer unforgettable isn’t the destination,” he reflects. “It’s the moments, the people, and the lessons you carry with you when it ends.”

And with that, the Cougars of Coconut Creek turn the page to a new chapter—ready to take on the challenges and joys of another school year with strength, courage, and Cougar pride.

A Season to Remember

Summer at Coconut Creek isn’t just a pause between school years—it’s a chance to grow, to discover, and to find new parts of yourself.
