Reboots That Succeeded and Failed
You think back to an old show you used to watch and think i wish that it was a reboot because of how much i love this show. Well thankfully some of the old shows we miss has come back for better or worse. Either the show was fully perceived or had a lack of support for it. Anonymous student here spoke about the success and fail of reboots stating “ There’s so many bad reboots and i don’t like it because it doesn’t connect with the original show… I love to see successful reboots because they have the nostalgia vibes of the show”
Alot of us miss the shows we grew up on. Happy that the show we all know, and love is coming back. Now the show being good, capturing the essence of the old is good. It is some shows that came back and get is good. Some examples of those shows are Bel-Air, Cobra Kai, and Icarly. Once these shows were announced that they were coming back everyone was so excited.
After the iconic hit show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” was made, and the reboot was announced the bar was high and it wasn’t a good expectation. The show proved them wrong adding more creativity and dramatic twists. Now the reboot isnt a carbon copy adding more realistic modernized storylines while the original is more joke telling. The reboot shines the light on black excellence, creativity, social issues. Also, many other important topics. Combining nostalgia and realism while acknowledging new era.
“Thirty-four years after events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, a down-and-out Johnny Lawrence seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai dojo, reigniting his rivalry with a now successful Daniel LaRusso.” The reboot of the karate kid films came of and successfully grabbed the fans the films. The show developed as a YouTube show then successfully going into the arms of Netflix during the pandemic. The show being filled with drama, comedy, and action. Catching the eyes of the young fans while also pulling the older fanbase of the films.
Another hit reboot is “Icarly” the show is about “Carly, Spencer and Freddie are back, navigating the next chapters in their lives and facing the uncertainties of life in their 20s.” Watching the reboot makes the audience feel nostalgic catching up with an old friend. It’s like Carly is the same but some much has happened with the time . Alot of fans like the reboot. Feeling back on old times watching the iconic show. Even with one of the main characters not returning the show still feels like old times. The execution was done very well.
Now we love a good reboot and some of these i wish they made it work but they just didn’t work out. Shows like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, The Fairy Odd parents: Fairly Older. These shows aren’t as good as the original show, which is sad because when it’s your childhood show you thought you would love it. The reboot lacks the familiar and nostalgic aspect. The fan base of these choices openly discloses the non-support for the shows.
If you are a gossip girl you thought you would see a good season of the reboot but when the first episode hit it did not meet views expectations. The reboot is kind of like the original. A social media page, called “Gossip Girl,” better known as “G.G.,” which is run by a group of teachers who had enough with the privileged kids running around, destroying other people’s lives. Opposed to the original which is run by what the characters assume to be a student. The site exposes the high-society teens that run amidst scandals. In the original, a student was running the website. But in the reboot, where a teacher was running an Instagram page called “Gossip Girl.” By the second season it failed support and was cancelled.
Another good example is Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin which was cancelled after two seasons for low viewership and overall perception. The series tried to revive the mystery show but failed the standards of the original audience. The loyal fanbase of the original series failed to generate the same buzz for the reboot.
Two seasons reboot That 90’s show which is a reboot of popular sitcom that’s 70’s show. Attempting to bring back the same buzz as the original but fans weren’t here for it. The show failed to get high viewership which resulted in cancellation. The show had a good theme of nostalgia but it ran its course.
