Springdale Homes, aka, Nove of Margate, was approved by Margate City Commissioners on first reading at last week’s city meeting. The plan now goes to the state and county for review before second reading by the commission next year.

Springdale homes is planned for the former Executive Golf Course at the west end of Margate Boulevard. The project consists of 132, 3-bedroom homes, a clubhouse and pool, fitness center, multi-sport court, a tot lot/dog walk area and a 1-acre public park. Golf course owner, Mike Fimiani, is providing $50,000 to spruce up medians at the entrance of the project on Margate Boulevard.

“It appears that Mr. Fimiani is a good partner for the city,” said Commissioner Joanne Simone before voting yes for the project. “He wants to build a community we can all be proud of.”

The city commission chamber was packed with residents wearing Keep Margate Green shirts, many of whom have repeatedly spoken against the project over the years. Concerns include traffic, impact on schools, noise, burrowing owls and a burden on water/sewer infrastructure,
