Hooked On
The Gypsy.

“Sometimes people like to paint a rosy color on things when the truth isn't really very pretty.”
- Dee Dee In "The Act" (Hulu)
Gypsy was born on July 27, 1991, in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Her mother Clauddine Blanchard (known as Dee Dee) had a condition called Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental illness where the caretaker of a child makes up fake symptoms or causes real ones to make the child look sick to get attention from othere.
Gypsy was tricked into taking various medicines, having her teeth pulled out, using a wheelchair, having a feeding tube, and falsely diagnosed with cancer. She also had different surgeries she did not need, such as having her salivary glands removed; all this for her mom to take thousands of dollars from strangers, to take free trips from charities and to get sympathy for her daughter’s situation.
On August 25, 2005, when hurricane Katrina hit, Dee Dee claimed to be a victim, and soon moved to Springfield, Missouri where Habitat of Humanity built her a home. Dee Dee also used the hurricane to describe that all her medical records were lost, which explains why doctors didn’t know that Gyspsy actually didn’t have these problems.
Eventually, Gypsy realized there was nothing wrong with her and she would stay up late at night playing on the computer and eating different kinds of sugary stuff that her mom told her she wasn’t allowed to have. Gypsy did get caught on the computer and her mother smashed it, but she got a new computer without her mother knowing and joined a Christian dating site.
On the website, she met a man named Nicholas Godejohn. She talked to him and soon told him about the abuse that she had been enduring from her mother.
In 2015, Gypsy met face-to-face with Nicholas at a movie theater. Unfortunately for Gypsy, her mom did not like him and made it very clear she did not want them together. Nicholas and Gypsy were upset about this and created a plan to kill her mother so they can be together forever.
Nicholas flew to Springfield on On June 9, 2015, where Gypsy hid in the bathroom while Nicholas stabbed Dee Dee in the back 17 times. They ran away to a hotel outside of Springfield and planned to go to Wisconsin by bus to Nicholas family’s house.
On June 14, 2015 Gypsy had posted a tweet on Dee Dee’s Facebook account that was very alarming and sent some red flags to her family and friends. The tweet read: “That b***h is dead!”
That same day, police went to investigate and found Dee Dee’s dead body. When they got to Nicholas family house in Wisconsin, police officers were waiting for them. Gypsy actually did try to deny that they killed her mother but later pled guilty to second-degree murder.
In 2016, Gypsy was only sentenced to ten years in prison because she only planned the death while Nicholas got life with no chance of parole for committing the crime. Nicholas pleaded not guilty and got sentenced to life in prison without parole. He is still in prison.
During his trial his attorney Dewayne Perry tried to argue that Nicholas has autism and was manipulated by Gypsy, but persecutors believed that he was motivated by the desire to be with her. Gypsy ended up getting parole in September 2023 and got out on December 28, 2023, so she only spent eight years in prison.
Nicholas has stated that he still loves Gypsy, and he has no regrets. On the other hand, Gypsy has stated that she has no more feelings for Nicholas, and she regrets killing her mom.
While Gypsy was in prison, she met Ryan Anderson and got married to him. Since her release, she has been with her family posting about her life, trying new things, going to new places and doing interviews.
She is now just trying to live her life and says she is a totally different person than when she first got into prison.
