Coconut Creek Bikers, Walkers Are In For Safer Excercise

- February 12, 2024

The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division has announced a comprehensive project that some local walkers and bikers have been waiting for.

It’s been decided that Lyons Road needs a big upgrade; from the Sawgrass Expressway to the Hillsboro Canal.

Coconut Creek and Lyons Road construction is now underway, and is to be completed in October.

Once the project is complete, bikers and pedestrians will have an easier way to explore Coconut Creek.  The project includes sidewalk improvements, road resurfacing, bike lanes, and the installation of ADA- (Americans With Disibilities Act) compliant pedestrian ramps.

To ensure safety of the public, variable message signs will be strategically placed to alert motorists and pedestrians about the ongoing work and to potential changes in traffic patterns, according to a press release announcing the project.

Traffic will be maintained in both directions on Lyons road throughout the project, but will be limited to one lane.  Access to business and driveways will also be preserved  throughout the project.
